Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to service and maintain crushers
   • Access, interpret and apply crusher service and maintenance documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify, address and report potential hazards, risks and environmental issues
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work activity
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and be ready for fire/accident/emergency
   • with others at the site prior to commencing, during and on completion of work activities
2. Carry out service and repairs
   • Carry out inspection of crushers, fault find and report outcomes
   • Select, check for faults and use appropriate servicing and maintenance tools
   • Select and operate servicing and maintenance items
   • Carry out servicing of crushers
   • Carry out maintenance of crushers
   • Recognise and respond to hazardous and emergency situations
   • Dispose of waste, including used oil, lubricants and other materials
   • Check for faults, return and secure all tools and re-usable items
   • Maintain servicing and maintenance records

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of servicing and maintaining crushers including:

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

controlling identified hazards

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues

preparing written records and reports

undertaking inspections and fault finding

applying site and manufacturer’s requirements and procedures for servicing and maintenance of the site’s crushers

applying isolation and lock-out requirements and procedures

working in confined spaces

works effectively with others to undertake service and maintain crushers in a way that meets all of the required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to coordinate work activities

demonstrates completion of the servicing and maintenance of the site’s crusher that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

carrying out pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures

servicing and maintaining crushers

operating equipment controls, monitoring gauges and systems

conducting safety checks

operating equipment within specified limitations and capabilities

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in the servicing and maintaining of crushers through:

accessing, interpreting and applying legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

identifying and managing risks

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues

setting up work activity

work health and safety

identifying and correcting operational faults

selecting and checking for faults, all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

applying site and manufacturer’s requirements and procedures
